I finally got to photograph my first senior of the season! This wonderful lady booked me over a year ago and it was so great to finally meet her. This session was shot at Dome Rock Park in Woodland Park, Co. : )
This weekend I had the privilege of being a part of Jeff & Mikaela's wedding day! It was so great to see all the love and support that these two have for each other and from family and friends. Thank you for letting me be a part of it! : )
Had the pleasure of photographing this adorable couple last weekend! Here's a little bit about how they met: " Well, we first officially met at church in October, though the first time I saw her was Easter of last year at my church dinner, while she first saw me a bit early than that but I didn't even notice! I was completely captivated though after that night and we didn't see each other again until October. One sunday morning I walked into church and there she was, and i froze on the inside haha that sunday I couldve even muscle up the courage to talk to her. Another week goes by and she was there again, and at the end of that service she walked out and I told myself this was my chance! So i followed and went outside and didnt see her so I thought she had left and was quite sad. I walked a few steps and theres she was...I pulled some corny line and got to talk for just a few minutes. I talked to her again the next week after that and the rest is literally history God literally brought us together at the perfect moment!" - Derek
Had the pleasure of photographing this adorable couple last weekend! Here's a little bit about how they met:
"I can just tell you that I heard about her from a roommate, Facebook stalked her, saw she loved Kanye West, superheroes, and was majoring in Film. I realized that this was the most perfect girl on earth. So my roommate told me what apartment she lived in and I knocked on her door. And for some reason she gave me the time of day! I still don't get it!" - Seth I absolutely love this family! I went to high school with Serena and it's so awesome to see her growing as a person and becoming a great mother. Here's a few of the pictures from her maternity session.
It's been a journey since I've started learning photography. I took an interest in it back in 2012 when all I had was a blue Nikon Coolpix Camera. But I wanted to take great pictures so I used my sister as a model and took tons of pictures with that camera. I also loved filters because I didn't know how to edit to save my life! lol 2013 - Nikon D3200Because I loved it so much my parents finally ordered me my first DSLR for Christmas, and I was so excited! The weeks leading up to receiving my new camera I studied tons of articles and watched hundreds of videos. Trying to soak up all the knowledge I could before I got my hands on the camera. I learned how to use manual settings before ever learning on the camera which helped me tremendously. After getting the camera I immediately got a 50mm 1.8G because I wasn't satisfied with the kit and started shooting. That's when I learned I loved prime lenses! I had taken my sisters senior pictures and immediately got requests to take her friends senior pictures. So that is when I started my photography business charging $20 and spending 2 hours shooting.(Of course I didn't know what I was doing business wise nor did I think I was at the place that I could charge more.) *All these photos were edited with Lightroom only. 2014 - Nikon D7000After much learning and feeling like I had outgrown the camera I decided to save up my money and get a used Nikon D7000. I fell in love with the many focus points and quality of the camera. And of course decided to upgrade my lenses, and get a 35mm 1.8G and a 85mm 1.8G. : ) I also rented a 70-200mm and 24-70mm for a brief time, and bought photoshop. 2015- Nikon D7000 & Dani DiamondAfter a lot of learning, watching videos and reading about photography I started learning what I liked and didn't like taking pictures of. I really disliked shooting weddings and large family photos gave me major anxiety. I learned that I loved one on one portrait sessions and started booking models to shoot for fun. I also was mentored by my all time favorite photographer, Dani Diamond on retouching and toning my photos. 2015 & The D800After awhile my D7000 wasn't cutting it anymore. The major backfocusing issues this camera gave me was such a headache. So I saved up and bought myself the D800. This camera is the most amazing thing I've ever shot with! The clarity, the colors and the dynamic range is so awesome. Conclusion! In all honesty I have come a long way and haven't always been able to work a camera. I studied my butt off and practiced day after day. I've compared myself to others and been discouraged, but I've also learned to develop a new outlook on my work. I love what I do, I love being creative and I love seeing where I've come from. If you are reading this and at the beginning stages of learning don't be discouraged. With a lot of hard work, dedication and passion you can take great pictures. I am still not done learning and growing. I have more to learn and I can't wait to see where I go from here. My favorite quote from my favorite photographer says this: "I wasn't born talented, I was born ambitious." Be ambitious and be passionate about your photography, and don't be afraid to ask questions. : )
I finally saved up and got my self a new camera that doesn't have focusing issues and I couldn't be more excited! In order to practice the lovely Brandi modeled for me so I could test out the new gear. I've been continually trying to get better at what I do, and am finally seeing some major results in my work. Check out the pics below shot with a Nikon D800 and 85mm 1.8G. If you are another learning photographer please feel free to ask me questions I don't mind answering! : )

Lately I've been feeling a little overwhelmed with the business side of photography. When I first started this journey I had just gotten a DSLR camera and was using my sister as a model to practice. After posting a few pictures her friends starting asking me to take their senior pictures. I didn't charge much but just enough to seem legit. After those first senior pictures I've been booked ever since. I never got a chance to just practice doing what I loved and be in control of my ideas. So now I'm taking a break from the business, and entering a new season of photography. I am now working with local models to discover what I truly love about photography and just have fun! Here are a few pictures from my first shoot with miss Ellie Jay! For these photos I used a nikon D7000 and 85mm 1.8g lens as well as natural light only. : ) * If your interested in modeling please email me at [email protected] or message me on facebook with a current picture and a little about yourself.
